กระจกเทมเปอร์

เป็นกระจกที่ได้จากการนำกระจกโฟลท (Float Glass) ไปผ่านกระบวนการทำเทมเปอร์ เพื่อเพิ่มความแข็งแรง โดยใช้หลักการเดียวกับการทำคอนกรีตอัดแรง คือ การสร้าง ให้เกิดชั้นของแรงอัดขึ้นที่ผิวกระจก เพื่อต้านแรงจากภายนอก โดยการให้ความร้อนกับกระจก ที่อุณหภูมิสูงกว่าจุดอ่อนตัวของกระจกเล็กน้อยที่ประมาณ 650°C – 700°C และทำให้ผิวกระจกเย็นตัวอย่างรวดเร็ว โดยการใช้ลมเป่าให้เย็นที่กระจกทั้งสองด้าน ผลของความแตกต่างของอุณหภูมิระหว่างผิวนอกกับส่วนกลางเนื้อในของแผ่น กระจก จะทำให้เกิดเป็นชั้นของแรงอัดขึ้นที่ผิวนอกของแผ่นกระจกทั้งสองด้าน โดยจะประกบชิ้นส่วนกลางเหมือนลักษณะแซนด์วิช และชั้นที่ผิวนี้จะช่วยต้านแรงจาก ภายนอก ทำให้เกิดแรงกระทำที่สมดุลกัน, การแตกของกระจกเทมเปอร์ จะแตกกระจายออกเป็นเม็ดเล็กๆ คล้ายเม็ดข้าวโพด และมีความคมน้อย กระจกเทมเปอร์ไม่ สามารถนำมา เจาะ เจียร บาก หรือแปรสภาพได้อีก เพราะกระจกจะแตก
